Surfing is Puerto Viejo’s number one pastime. In addition to breaks appropriate for intermediate and beginning surfers, Puerto Viejo features the famous Salsa Brava—a Class A wave the forms in deep Caribbean waters and breaks right and left onto a sharp coral reef. Salsa Brava is located near Hotel Puerto Viejo, the best spot in town to meet expert local surfers familiar with the area’s six major breaks. Check the Surf page for more information |

Night – Time
We know you’re coming to Puerto Viejo for the stellar surfing, the amazing outdoor adventures, and the bitchin’ beaches, but—let’s be honest—you know you want to go out at night, too. Puerto Viejo is the Caribbean beach destination for nightlife. Dance to reggae roots, raga muffin, dancehall, Merengue, Salsa, Caribbean Calypso, and Marimba through the night, or simply shoot a game of pool and chat with a few locals. Hotel Puerto Viejo is the most central place to party—the town’s three big late-night spots are all within a few short blocks and hotel staff members are on-site and, more important, awake, 24 hours a day. |
